"I"m really starting to hate bad news," I mutter back,"Then again ever met anyone who enjoys bad news?" He glances between the two of us. "Seeing as they were born so early, your boys lungs weren't properly developed." "No," I whisper.

I grimace slightly, dropping my gaze to the floor. Should have known.

"We managed to get one of them on breathing support and into the ICU." "So one's okay?" I ask quietly. He nods,"He's breathing's a little ragged but he's got a heartbeat. Weak one, but he's got one."

One's better than none. There's supposed to be two. I remain silent, keeping my eyes firmly on the floor.

There's a rush of relief, followed quickly after with a wave of guilt. Gald that at least one of the babies were okay, but guilty because they was suppose to be two. "Would you like to see him?" I glance up, breaking away from my thought,"Yeah," I nod, realizing I still had a hold on Ian's hand,"I want to see him,"

"Uh," I glance up, just realising what's been said and agreeing belatedly, "Yeah, guess so."

I glance over at Ian,"Can we get a mintue alone?" I move over, next to him, taking his face in my hands, making him look at me,"You as shaken up as I am?"

"Think that's safe to say," I admit, having to force myself to actually meet her eyes.

"Ian," I mutter quietly, gently tracing a circle on his cheek with my thumb. I sigh heavily, not sure what else to say, but lean forward, kissing him softly.

I kiss her softly back, before breaking the kiss and resting my forehead against hers.

I glance down momentarily, before forcing myself to meet his gaze,"Want to go see him?" I ask quietly.

"Yeah, I do," I say softly, brushing the hair lightly back off her forehead, "It'll be alright, Maddie."

I kiss him briefly back, before glancing down the hall, tugging at his hand,"Come on, now or never."

I nod mutely, not to sure what to expect as I head across the hall. It was suppose to be two, rings out in my head as I stop, watching everyone rush past me. Felt like everything was moving in slow motion again.

I follow her awkwardly across the hall, keeping hold of her hand. My mind's curiously blank, which I might find worrying if I didn't feel so empty at the moment.

I stop, catching sight of a small glass case in the middle of the room. "That's him," I whisper quietly, letting go of Ian's head and stepping towards,"Looks just like you,"I mutter, turning back around to glance at Ian, when I catch sight of a crowd of nurses on the opposite side, covering a small body. I catch sight of a mop of blond hair and I instantly feel my stomach drop,"He was a blond," I whisper.

I watch her silently for a moment, trying hard not to pay attention to what else is going on, then hesitantly put my arms round her waist from behind her, not sure what I was supposed to say.

I lean into him, putting my hand over his, trying hard not to think about anything. It's a lot harder then you think, when the problem is right infront of you,"He's tiny," I mumble quietly.

"He looks just like you," I say again, leaning my head back. "Excuse me?" I turn my head slightly, seeing a nurse standing next to us. "We need the parent's names, that's you two correct?" I nod weakly, coming to terms I was a mum. "Mother's full name?" "Madeline Jane Marie Speare," I mumble, glancing back over at the baby. "Father's full name?" She asks, glancing up at Ian.

She nods, scribbling it down on a sheet. "Son's name?" My stomach gives an unpleasnt jolt, as I realize we'd have to choose betweening naming him Alex or Aaron. We're not suppose to choose, we were suppose to have both.

I shake my head, breaking out of his embrace and heading back into the other room. It's suppose to be both of them. I bite down on my bottom lip, sitting down heavily on the edge of the bed, eyes fixed on the ground.

I stay where I am, eyes fixed on the baby still. Just give her a minute by herself. You could both do with that.

I put my head in my hands, shutting my eyes tightly, "It's not suppose to be like this." I whisper quietly. Son's name? No, not son, sons. As in more then one, two. There's suppose to be two.

One is better than none, one is better than none, one is better than none... I close my eyes, repeating it over and over again inside my head. One is better than none, one is better than none, one is better than none... But there's supposed to be t-... One is better than none...
