Gabriel walked cautiously into the party. He hadn't been to a party like this since he was in school. The recent ones he'd been to had been work parties and such. Most of them being rather boring. He hoped that he didn't look too old coming to this party. Afterall, he was still only twenty-one, but he guessed from the view of someone still in school he would seem quite old. He hoped that not everyone here was still in school. He didn't want to be the odd one out.
You're usually the odd one out anyway. I'm surprised you're not used to it by now.
He walked to the bar and ordered a butterbeer. He wasn't really in the mood for heavy drinking. Plus, alcohol never did much for him anyway. He wasn't really here to find a relationship. He just wanted to socialise a bit more. Something he's usually deprived of when he was working.

I walked into the singles party. At this point I didn't really care. If Eric and I got together then yay for us. If not, I don't plan on letting that upset me. I walked over to the bar, and got my usual butter beer. I never did underdstand what people found fun about getting drunk. I noticed a person near by me was also drinking a butter beer. Now thats a shock. I thought most people were fasinated with that fire wiskey stuff. It tasted nasty in my opinion.

Gabriel sees someone else approach the bar out of the corner of his eye. He turns his head slightly and smiles at her. "I'm glad i'm not the only one not planning on getting completely smashed." He chuckled, holding his bottle up to her in a 'cheers' motion.
At least there'll be someone else for you to talk to that won't be slurring too much for you to understand.

I raised my bottle too, and said, "Never did understand what people found fun about that."

"Yeah, all it results in is a really bad hangover the next day. And your mates telling you all about the embarassing things you did while you were drunk." Gabriel chuckled. "And yeah, i'm talking from experience." He said with a lop-sided grin.
Don't want to go through that again.
"I suppose you can find it fun, and you get more confidence." He considered. "But still it's not worth the humiliation." He laughed softly and took a swig of his butterbeer.

"Exactly. I don't need alcohol to be embarrassed, I accomplish that enough by myself. Never even bothered to try it, after seeing what is did to my friends." I said.

Gabriel chuckled. "Yeah i know how that feels. Luckily i don't do it as much anymore." He smiled. "You're a smart girl, i'll give you that. Alcohol makes people vunerable for a lot of things. And with the war going on, vunerable is not what anyone should want to be." He sighed. He hated this war, he just wanted it to end so the mindless killing of innocent people could stop.
You've tried to make a difference.
It was true, Gabriel had tried, and still was trying. It was his job to catch dark witches and wizards, and he was glad to do it.

"People say that a lot. I never understood why I was put into gryffindor. I wish this war would just stop." I said thinking of all the useless things I've done to try and help, and all the friends I've lost.

"I'm sure you can be smart and brave." Gabriel smiled. "You were probably put in Gryffindor because you're fearless, but also a rational thinker." He nodded, attempting to look wise. But most liking ended up looking like a startled owl.
Nice one.
"Same here, there's far too much mindless killing, and people are starting to go a bit strange, selfish maybe. I don't know. People change during wars." He shrugged and took another sip of his drink.

I laughed and said, "Me? Rational? I don't think so. Although I too have changed, the only thing that seems to be the same is drinking butter beers." I said.

Gabriel chuckled quietly. "Okay, so if someone told you to jump off a cliff, you'd do it." He stated, already knowing the answer. "Because if you don't jump, you're being rational." He smiled at her warmly, his eyes shining at amusement, mostly at himself.
Laughing at your own jokes, how sad.
"And plus, drinking butterbeer instead of getting pissed off your face from firewhiskey, is also rational." He added with a small grin. "I'm glad that you haven't changed on the butterbeer front, otherwise i'd be sitting here alone right now." He finished, grinning once more.

"Being alone never bothered me, and will you look at that. I guess I am rational!" I said in shock. Me? Rational? Dorcas Meadowes and rational are two words that you would never imagine together. It happens.

"Nah, being alone isn't that bad. I'm alone most of the time when i'm working so i guess i'm used to it now." Gabriel replied with a smile. "But i do prefer having company, i guess i'm quite a social person. I love meeting new people. My friends and family are the most important things in my life." He added honestly.
"Yes you see! It's not that hard now is it really?" He chuckled. "As long as you have common sense, being rational is pretty easy." He finished.

"Then I guess that explains why its so hard for me to be rational." I muttered. "What do you do for work?" I asked.

"Now you see, a lot of people don't have much common sense, so you have the upper-hand there." Gabriel grinned and took another sip of his butterbeer. "I'm an auror for the ministry." He answered proudly. It had taken him a few years to get where he was now, and he was proud of his acomplishments. Though working for the ministry could be a pain sometimes. Especially since they seemed to try and ignore problems instead of solving them.

"Thats so awsome! Thats the only job that I really want to have as of now, but being horrible at potions doesn't help." I said.

"That's great!" Gabriel grinned. "And don't worry about potions. They say it's important, but it isn't really." He chuckled. "I was always terrible at potions when i was at school." He laughed softly remembering how he'd once melted his cauldron, put a hole through his desk and made another hole in the floor during just one lesson, whilst attempting to make just one potion.

"Thank god! Trust me, its hard to be as bad as I am. I think I've set the school record for most amount of melted couldrons." I said.

Gabriel laughed loudly. "Maybe you have, but you have to beat my record first. I think i melted about 100 throughout my seven years at Hogwarts." He chuckled. "I think i must have melted at least one a week." He grinned.
|
|
|
Post by Dorcas Meadowes on Dec 16, 2007 16:11:35 GMT
"Yeah. I think I beat you. If I'm lucky I only melt one a week." I said emphasizing on the word only. I always wondered how I was still taking potions after doing so badly. I guess I was just lucky in my OWLS.

"Wow, that's an achievement and a half." Gabriel beamed. "I'm afraid you're going to have to give me a high five for that." He chuckled, holding up the hand that wasn't holding onto his almost empty butterbeer bottle.

I raised my empty hand, and high fived him. "I doubt the Ministry is going to let me in my my records." I said.

Gabriel high-fived her with a grin. "Nah, you never know. I had bad records for potions but they gave me an interview anyway, and here i am, qualitfied and everything. I'm actually quite good at potions now. Or at least, i haven't melted a cauldron since school." He chuckled. "You as well give it a go, you'll never know unless you try." He smiled reasurringly.

"That's great!" Gabriel beamed. "You just need to go in and give it your all. If they say no than it's their problem. I bet you'd be a fantastic auror and they'd just be missing out." He smiled reassuringly and took another sip of his almost empty bottle of butterbeer.

"Its worth a try. I went in for a interview a while ago, the guy practically laughed at me!" I said.

"Well you can do that laughing when you're the next best auror in the world." Gabriel smiled. "But of course you'd have to get past my level of expertise." He chuckled, only joking of course. He was a good auror but he wasn't the best.

"Oh intend to. When I'm a top auror, he'll regret that." I said.
