"It's okay. I wasn't actually expecting you to help that much but it's okay." I say to him.

I nod, still feeling like a coward. If that's your response to a sort-of friendly type, what are you going to do once you actually go to the Order and they ask you to actually do something? I stir my ice cream absentmindedly, frowning.

"Are you okay Fitzy?" I ask him, noticing his ice cream melting as he stirred.

"Fine." I shake my head, then shrug. "Just a coward," I add, muttering it bitterly.

I just look at him for a moment. "Fitzy, why are you a coward according to who?" I ask softly.

"One person who knows my inner mind well enough to judge," I say, smiling wryly. "And also my sister, but never mind that. According to my actions." I shrug.

I just nod my head, not positive on how to react to his statement. I knew what he meant, I just didn't know what to say.

Finally someone who doesn't try to argue, I think, immensely relieved... then finding it mildly awkward when she says nothing at all. "So...." I say slowly, glancing around at the kids.

They smile, but they looked slightly forced. I sigh. "Who wants another scoop of ice cream?" I say to them. They all nod and go back to the counter asking for more. The ice cream guy looked at me and I show him a few sickles.

"Lots of practice with distracting and/or cheering up kids?" I ask, watching this.

"You can say distracting." I say to him with a frown.

"Sorry..." I say, frowning slightly in confusion. "Something wrong with saying cheering up?"

"Nothing. They're always cheerful. I guess you could say cheering up too." I say watching them all come back with their ice cream with smiles.

"Okay..." I nod. "Well, that's good, I guess. Always cheerful, though?" I ask, raising my eyebrows. "That's got to be... annoying."

I laugh. Jenny glares at him. "Except for Jenny there." I say sticking my tongue out at her. "I want to be in Slytherin or maybe Hufflepuff, unlike these Ravenclaw kids." All of them, except for Justin and Dustin make faces at Jenny. "We want to be in Gryffindor like our dad." Justin and Dustin say with a grin.

"A noble goal," I nod at the two boys. "And you don't want to be in Slytherin, m'dear," I add, shaking my head at Jenny. "Hufflepuff, absolutely. Hufflepuff's a good house. But you really don't want to be a Slytherin."

"How come? My entire family before my mommy was in Slytherin." I look at Fitzy. "It is true...my father's side is all in Slytherin." I say to him.

"Ah," I nod, then shake my head at Jenny again. "So was most of mine, until my little sister. But she's the only decent one, really. Have you got a problem with your mum? Think she's a bad person?"

Jenny looks up at me. "I just don't get along with her that well, or my dad and he was in Ravenclaw too." I simply sigh. "But I love her..." she adds with a smile to me.

I can't help but smile a little, even though the mushiness of that statement makes me twitchy. "Well then, maybe you'll change your mind by the time you get to go to school. But either way... please don't wind up in Slytherin. Anywhere's better than that."

"But you're in Slytherin...and you seem nice." she says to him.

I smile very slightly and shake my head. "Not if you met me a couple of months ago. And... a friend of mine...." I shake my head again. "If he had been in Ravenclaw instead of picking Slytherin, he would still be alive now." It occurs to me only after I say it that this might be slightly too morbid and frightening for a bunch of kids, but I really can't exactly put the words back in my mouth.

"See, you should be in Ravenclaw like us."Zoe says before she stickes out her tongue at Jenny.

"Or... Hufflepuff or Gryffindor," I counter. "She doesn't have to be like the rest of you, just as long as she's not a snake."

Zoe looks up at him. "I want to be a hufflepuff Jenny. You can be with me!" Ashlyn says with a small giggle. It wasn't one for her to talk very much.

I smile. Fitzy at first was terrified of my kids, but now he seemed to get along with them quite well. "So, it's decided then...be hufflepuffs, gryffindors, and ravenclaws." I say.

"All of them equally good," I nod. "But how old are all of you, anyway? You've got some time to think about it, don't you?"

"They all descend in age. Jenny, Dustin, and Justin are all seven, Zoe is six, Ashlyn is five, Isaiah is four, Hope and Holly are three." I say with a smile. "I think I'm crazy sometimes...." I say with a laugh.
