Lin smiled slightly. "I'd like to, but I'm not at liberty to. There are secrets involved that aren't mine to tell. Basically, my life was put at risk by having Peter's kids, so I went into hiding, had them, and sent them to people I trust. I went away, and then when it was safe again I came back."

I raise my eyebrows slightly, finishing off my coffee. "Now that would be quite helpful... all I've found out so far is something about having your mind attacked over and over again so you can practice putting up shields. But it didn't really say how to do any of that."

She smiled slightly, biting down on her lower lip as she thought for a moment. "Okay...you have to stop everything. It's like.... oh how do you explain it....?! Um... will. Like when you're trying a new spell, and you're focusing on making it work. You've got to imagine the walls, big, thick, stone walls. Or brick, or whatever you want. And you have to use your will to block the other person out. Wrap the walls around your thoughts and memories."

I nod slowly, frowning slightly. "Okay... that makes sense. Thank you." I pause, taking a sip of cold coffee and grimacing. "What about... do you know any spells that a sixth year is likely to be able to do that could be used for practicing the defenses? The books I read were really not much help."
