Rylan walked around down by the lake, taking each and everything about Hogwarts in at the moment. It was an interesting place, that was for sure. Very different from places he had been before. Ry stood at the shoreline, watching the water stay unnervingly still.
"Such an odd place..." He commented to himself.

I glance up from where I’m sitting at the edge of the lake a few feet away, just watching the surface of the water and feeling amazingly calm, almost self-hypnotized.
"It can be," I say to the guy, not even thinking about it before I strike up the conversation.

Ry shifted his gaze to the right, seeing a girl sitting not more than a few feet away. He wasn't aware that anybody was here; he was so engrossed at looking into the water. Nodding his head, Rylan agreed.
"The more I explore around here, the stranger things seem to get." He told the girl, laughing quietly.

I nod, then realize I'm agreeing for the sake of being agreeable again without being sure if I actually understand.
"So what's the oddest thing so far?" I ask curiously.

Ry laughed lightly again, flipping the hair out of his face, "Well, aside from all the odd things that randomly pop out in corners..." He said, thinking of what truly was the oddest thing he had seen here so far, "Probably the random ghosts that just pop out of nowhere."
Rylan felt that his sights already seen here were strange, and sometimes gave him the creeps. This much was for certain.

I nod, deciding after a moment's thought that ghosts might be a little strange if you weren't used to them.
"So I take it that you're new here?" I ask. "And... muggleborn, or just not used to so many ghosts?"

Ry nodded his head, "Yup. Just transfered over." He told the girl. As quickly as he had nodded, he shook his head to the left and right, "No, I've got a little magic blood in me. I just... Didn't stay with my parents; went to live with my aunt and uncle who were muggles." Ryland explained to her, leaving out the reasons why. He had just met this girl, and didn't feel it necessary to bring up his past.
"Oh, I'm Rylan, by the way." He laughed, holding out a hand to the girl. Ry had forgot to introduce himself.

"Arden," I nod, shaking his hand after only the slightest, probably unnoticed hesitation. "So where'd you transfer from?" I ask next, even more curious about him now that I know he's muggle-raised.

"Nice to meet you." He nodded to her, letting his hand slip back down to his side. Rylan sighed a little, he always hated explaining how he ended up here, considering it was so complicated, "Well, I went to a muggle school before here, and it's kind of complicated to explain my reason for being here to begin with." He tried to make sense of that.

I nod in acknowledgment as a way of saying 'nice to meet you too,' then frown slightly at the next bit. "Okay... so you've never been to a wizarding school before? How old are you?"

"Nope..." Ry responded, shaking his head again, "Just turned seventeen last summer." He replied. Rylan could tell by the tone of her voice that she had probably never heard of a guy just up and coming to Hogwarts after missing so many years. Honestly, he didn't know how it was possible himself, but it seemed that it was.

I nod. "And that's a little odd, don't you think?" I ask. "I mean... no offense, but aren't you a little behind? How come you didn't come earlier?"
And how come you can't mind your own business or shut up?

Rylan also nodded his head, completely agreeing with her on the subject. He wasn't going to lie, he knew for himself that it was odd. Ry shrugged his shoulders, "I dunno. I just got my letter this summer, telling me was I being transfered from my muggle school to here. They already told me what year I was going to be in."

"Very strange," I mutter, nodding. "Did you not even know you were a wizard, or...?" I pause. "I'm sorry if I'm asking too many questions. It's just... very odd, that's all."

Ry nodded his head again at the 'strange' comment. He knew it was weird, that much was for sure, "Yeah, I knew I was a wizard, but like I said, somehow didn't get my letter 'till now." Rylan held up his hand to her, "Don't worry about it, I don't mind."
It wasn't so much that he disliked talking about it, just how complicated it was to explain. Her reactions to his story were completely normal, if not expected. Hell, sometimes his own story didn't even make sense to himself.

I nod, glad that he doesn't take offense at my nosiness.
"It's just... odd, that's all," I say again. "I mean it sounds like the Ministry screwed up or something, and forgot about you. Kind of... a scary thought, I guess." I shrug slightly.

Rylan nodded his head and sat down in the grass, "Tell me about it. Things got real fucked up, but it makes me feel glad that I get to be here now, y'know?" He asked her.

"I... suppose," I nod. "It almost seems like it would've been easier on you to just leave you with the muggles, but if you're happier here...." I shrug. "Sometimes I would rather be a muggle. Seems simpler."

"I must agree, muggle life is easier..." Ry nodded, "But I would much rather be here. If not, I probably would have felt like I was missing something all my life, y'know? Like there was a whole other world out there to explore."

"Makes sense," I nod. "I suppose maybe that's why I'm so interested in Muggles, because they're sitting right there next to us and yet they're a whole different people... if I'm making any sense." I shrug.

"Whole different people in the sense that they shy away from our kind of world. I mean, they use the stupidest excuses for what they don't wanna believe." Rylan offered, adding somewhat to her explanation, "Honestly, I would hate it if I didn't have magic. I'd just be another ignorant person on the earth."

I nod slowly, chewing that over in my head.
"I suppose that's true... the ignorance anyway. But I don't know if they don't want to believe it. Maybe they just can't. Unless you have examples."

He shrugged his shoulders lightly, "I dunno. Ahh well, point is they don't have magic and we do." Ry grinned.

I tilt my head a bit, then nod. "Pretty hard to argue with that...."

"Naw, it doesn't matter to me. I just know when I'm right." Rylan grinned, a small chuckle passing his lips.

"Hm...." I say, half-smiling quizzically. "And you don't mind if you lose an argument when you know that you're right?"
