Rose raised a slim pale hand and knocked on the door to Owens Manor, waiting patiently on the doorstep for a few seconds, then biting her lip lightly as the door swung open at the force of her knock. Unlocked, trust them.
She dithered uncertainly on the doorstep, trying to peer into the hall through the thin crack where the door had opened slightly. It'd be an invasion of privacy to just go straight in, but they'd left the door unlocked and it wasn't as if she were unfriendly to the family; quite the opposite in fact.
After a moment's deliberation, she pushed the door open fully, stepping into the hall and then closing it behind her with one hand, unfastening the top most clasp of her cloak with the other and looking around the empty hall.
"Nathan? Jack?" She called softly, voice bouncing off the walls. She'd known them both quite well at school, being in the same year as them, "Hello?"
No reply answered her and she sighed a little, shrugging her cloak off her shoulders and biting her lip again, Just great.

Jack crept up behind her, smirk tugging at the corners of his lips.
He was still unnoticed and took the perfect opportunity.
"BOO!" He laughs, clapping his hands on her shoulder from behind.
"Shame on you Rosie, ever heard of knocking?" He asks, still laughing.

Rose jumped about a mile, heart rate speeding and turned very fast. Her face contorted into an expression of reluctant amusmant, "That was not funny, Jack."
Then she laughed, putting her hands on her hips, "If you didn't want people invading your house, maybe you should have locked the door."

"Was not," She argues, trying and failing to keep a straight face.
"Sensible people lock their doors, Jack," She tells him with a grin, then shakes her head and wraps her arms round his waist in a hug, "Why are we having this argument? I missed you."

"Then why'd you jump?" He laughs, raising an eyebrow then wraps his arms round her back hugging her.
"Yeah well I'm not a sensible person, now am I Rosie?" He grins,"Yeah, missed you too."

"Because...uh...oh, shut up," She laughs, voice muffled by his shoulder.
"Of course you're not, that's why you're Jack," She laughs, drawing away and looking him up and down, "You've grown. Or I've shrunk, either one."

"Haha, I win." He grins, resting his head on hers for a moment, before drawing away.
"Course I'm me, who else would I be after all," He grins cheekily,"You've shrunk and I've grown. Bit of both really."
He was glad to see her again, it had been a while, and boy did she look good.

"Arrogant bastard," She teases, reaching up and pulling his arm back down.
"Yes, yes I am Mr Jack," She smiles innocently, "What are you going to do about it?"
She looks up at him for a moment, "No, you are. Compared to me you are."

"Oooh, I'm scared Jack," She laughs, "You wouldn't do anything to me..."
"I've been around, at home mostly, pure blood functions and the like, coming to terms with my future which I have to say is not looking up. How about you? Where have you been? Adventuring?"

"Pure blood functions, oh bore." He says pulling a face."But of course, Romania for the past two years."

Then grins, saying in a sing song voice, "Because you love me!"
"Oh major bore," She nods, then grins, "Romania? Brilliant. I knew it, I knew it. While I'm stuck socialising with the futute inlaws, you're off adventuring in Romania. What was to stop you taking me with you, eh?" She laughs.

He pretends to sulk,"Damn, good reason."
You have no idea, He thinks to himself, all through school he had a crush on Rose, but had never told her.
"Yeah, Romania," He nods,"Got kicked out though, not allowed to tease the dragons, oh and I had gotten a nasty ccase of dragon pox." He laughs then stops, raising an eyebrow,"Future inlaws?"

"I know," She says brightly, adding silently in her head, If only if it was true.
She laughs, "Trust you to get kicked out of a country. Teasing dragons, honestly Jack, what if something had happened to you? Okay, something worse than dragon pox," Then she pauses and nods slightly, "Hmm, yes, future inlaws," before quickly changing the subject, "So how's the rest of the family?"

"Still think you should have been put in Ravenclaw," He laughs lightly, clipping her round the chin."Got the brains for it,"Got the beauty too.
"I had every right to tease those dragons, they stole my sandwich! Besides, no one told me it was illegal to tease them," He laughs,"Oh you should have seen it Rosie, it was all yellow and gunk," He grins then stops as she skips the subject.
"Hey, hey." He mutters, putting his hands on her shoulder,"In laws?" He asks again.

She grins, "Eh, maybe."
"The dragons stole your sandwich?" She raises an eyebrow, then laughs, pushing him lightly, "Ew Jack, that's gross. I'm glad I didn't see it."
She shrugs lightly, as he puts his hands on her shoulders, at any other time she wouldn't have minded the touch, it seemed slightly inappropriate now though, "It's just a stupid little..." her voice falters slightly and the next phrase comes out as one word, too fast and too quiet, "arrangedmarriage."

He frowns slightly, as she mutters something and manages to catch the word, marriage.
He stomach twists unpleants as he takes his hands off her shoulders.

"Please tell me you did not eat the sandwich if you got it back," She smiles, although slightly weaker than before.
"No, Jack," She reaches out to touch his arm lightly as he frowns and takes his hands away, "It's not...not like that...stupid pure blood thing..."
It doesn't change anything. It doesn't change I'd rather be with you for sure.

He shakes his head no, jamming his hands into his pocekts, taking a step away from her, unable to meet her eyes.
She's getting married Jack, you had your chance.
"So, your getting married huh?" He asks quietly,"You love him?"

"I am," She nods expressionlessly, but gets thrown by the next question.
Opening her mouth to reply, she decides she can't find the words, so she just shakes her head 'no', watching the floor at their feet.

He keeps his eyes on the ground, and in doing so didn't see her shake her head.
Instead he takes the silence as a yes.
"Oh." Is all he manages to say,"Congrats then."

This isn't a fairy tale Rosie, and you're not a child. What do you expect to happen?
She stays silent for a moment, then asks quietly, "Will you come?"

He's taken back by her question not expecting it.
Talk about the biggest slap in the face.
"Yeah," He mutters hoarsly after a moment,"Yeah, I'll be the one running around nude," He says jokingly trying to lighten the mood.

She laughs in such a light way it could have been mistaken for an intake of breath.

His face softens slilghtly as he takes her face in his hands, making her look up at him.
"No Rose," He says quietly,"I'm not mad, I never could be mad at you."

He chuckles softly, always a worrier that Rose, even when they were in school.
"Promise Rose," He says softly, putting his forehead agasint hers.
He pulls back, wrapping an arm loosely round her shoulder, guiding her inside,"Come on, tell me how you've been. Last time I was you was, when I was 19 wasn't it?"
