Rose sat on the ledge of a window of the astronomy tower, eyes fixed on the ground so very far below her. Her legs swung idly back and forward, in what struck her as a childish manner, heels hitting the stone wall of the outside of the tower with a regular but painless beat. The wind was whistling past her and into the room as she sat, half out of the window, and stung at her bare arms and face with cold.
The night seemed very dark, but was clear. Crystal clear, so she could easily see all the stars. She couldn't take her eyes of them.
Maybe Jack was up there.
That's stupid, Rosie, Some part of her conscience chided her, You're stupid, Rosie.
"I know, I know," She whispered to herself, voice being whipped away by the wind as soon as the words left her mouth.
You're so stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid. You should have told him while you had the chance, you should have told him, made sure he knew. But now he never will. Stupid Rosie.
A couple of raw tears slid down her face and she wiped them away sadly. She thought she'd managed to stop crying at random moments by now, but obviously she hadn't quite got it under control.
He'll never know you loved him. Still love him. Never. Stupid Rosie.
She closed her eyes, dipping her head as if she were looking at her hands which were clasped in her lap. The drop below was dizzying, too high, but far too tempting as she opened her eyes a slit, so she closed them immediately. High places should not be tempting.
He wouldn't have cared even if you had told him, why would he? You're so stupid Rosie.
"I know," She whispered again, brushing more tears away with her sleeve, "I know."
((Only reply if you know Rose, please ))
