Bella walk up her garden path, laden with bags, and with Kim clinging to her side.
She put everything down and unlocked the front door. The emptiness of the house shocked her slightly.
She was used to coming back home to a house with no one there. But her mother always did come home, always later than she said she would. But she always would come home.
Bella felt sad for a moment, thinking that she'd never see her mum in the house again. That no one would be coming home later.
Her mum was stuck in a private hospital in Manchester with terminal cancer. Bella had been staying with her for the past few months. But her mother insisted that she go back and visit her friends.
Bella picked up her bags and set them down again in the hallway. She nudged Kim towards the living room, and followed her in. Needing some time to sit down. She already felt lonely.
