"If you like not being disliked, yes," I nod, then pause and frown a bit. "Say... did you know Jake Moore?" I ask, highly doubting she'll say yes, but needing to ask for some reason, having been reminded of him during our discussion on friends. "Dumb, arrogant mudblood in our year and house?"

"Um no..." I say thinking for a moment. "Never heard of him. Why?"

I shrug. "Just curious. He was one of those two or three friends I mentioned."

I nod. "Dead now," I say casually. "Got his throat slit down in the dungeons somewhere." I frown slightly, then shake my head, realizing I probably should have stopped at just the nod.

"Sorry to hear that," I frown.

I nod again, then shrug, start to say that he was an idiot and deserved it and all the things I usually do - and then close my mouth again, nodding. "Anyway... sorry to bring that up...." I mutter.

"Its okay. He was your friend, I'm pretty sure you miss him," I say more like a question instead of a statement.

"I... suppose," I say evasively, shrugging, not even entirely sure if I do or not. "But a lot of people have lost friends lately." I shrug again.

"Yeah, look how many people have been dying," I say and shake my head. "Its rather scary actually."

"Very." I laugh without humor, shaking my head. "Especially all the deaths around school... thought Hogwarts was supposed to be safe."

"It was, until Voldy came back anyway." Listen to yourself talk for a minute. You joined him! Your basically adding to the danger.... "I think the muggle way of htings is a lot safer most of the time."

"You think it's safer to be ignorant?" I ask, raising my eyebrows, ignoring the bit about Voldemort and feeling rather guilty.

I laughed dryly, "Muggles don't know a lot of things. Most are very ignorant. But think of their life. Without all the magic. Magic can make things worse and easier to do. Like hurting people, its very easy. Just muttering a few words with a stick that you've had half of your life." I try to explain.

"Muggles can still hit each other," I shrug. "And muggles have those..." I try to draw the shape of a gun in the air with my hands, shrugging. "Some kind of weapon anyway, and all you have to do is pull some kind of lever to kill someone. Has nothing to do with your intent or level of skill, unlike a lot of spells. Most of the time you can't really hurt someone with the most dangerous spells unless you want to and have the training. Muggle ignorance can kill people much easier."

"Magic can still have its downs. And you mean a gun? Yes, but guns are limited. They have to have bullets. But you have a point."

"And... a lot of magic has to have a wand," I shrug. "What downsides does magic have, exactly?" I ask curiously.

I shrug also, "My point is, magic is still much more dangerous than any muggle item. Especially if you work with the Dark Lord then you know what I mean." I say without realizing I might have given a slight clue away. Maybe he doesn't work with the Order. Since when did anyone Slytherin?

I raise my eyebrows, consider commenting on our mutual lack of caution with each other and decide against it. "True, magic is more dangerous," I agree. "But my argument was that it's safer to be anything but a muggle. Because at least the rest of us can fight back. They can't."
