"True...." I nod. "But it seems to me that the unexpected might be the exception. Even when something takes you by surprise, it's often quite easy to see how you could have predicted it if you were paying attention."

"Exactly." I say with a smile. "How are you not in ravenclaw?"

I snort softly. Maybe the fact that I'm willing to either kill my own sister to save my own skin or doom her to serving the side she hates just to keep her alive? "Because a lot of Ravenclaws are borderline Slytherin anyway... just more decent. Quite a lot of Hufflepuffs could almost be Gryffindors if only they were braver. I wasn't decent enough." I shrug casually.

"Okay then. I think you fit well." I say to him softly. "My case was different though. I was almost in gryffindor." I say with a shrug as well.

I raise my eyebrows slightly, strangely impressed. "Well, there are exceptions... quite a lot, I'm sure. So what tipped the balance?" I ask curiously. "If you don't mind my asking."

"Honestly, I asked the hat." I say with a smile. "It couldn't decide between the two, and took forever. So I said Ravenclaw."

"I've heard of that working," I nod. "Fool friend of mine actually picked Slytherin when the hat tried to put him in Ravenclaw." I roll my eyes slightly, trying not to think about that. "So you're kind of..." I pause, not sure how to say it, and then shrug. "Why'd you pick Ravenclaw over Gryffindor?"

"I didn't think I was personally brave enough. But practically everyone I know would disagree with that statement." I say.

"Including the Sorting Hat, which can actually see what traits you have inside your head," I point out. "But I suppose that's understandable, if you didn't think you were up to it. Especially at eleven."

"Yeah." I say nodding my head not mentioning I didn't get to hogwarts until I was 14.

I nod back, not really sure what more to say, and glance down to discover that my ice cream has become moderately chilled, mostly lukewarm soup while I've been talking. I shake my head in amusement. Been a while since I was that absorbed in a conversation.

"Something wrong?" I ask.

"No, not at all." I grin slightly. "It's just been... quite a while since I had a serious conversation that didn't make me want to throttle the other person involved."

I shrug. "Not a problem. It's a compliment. I don't find you a babbling idiot like most people."

I laugh. "I'm glad not to be a babbling idiot, but a babbling logical person.''

"Or maybe just not a babbling anything," I disagree, shaking my head. "Otherwise I woul have just said you're not an idiot."

I nod, raising tan eyebrow. "Of course, it's hard to disagree with... how often are you going to hear anyone say, 'I'm glad there aren't intelligent people out there?"

I shrug, shaking my head. "I continued with the classes I actually liked, and dropped the others.... No offense, but is Astronomy actually useful at all?"

"It controls the tide, what direction you're traveling with the stars, and it makes the choices if we live or not. For instance a black hole, comet or asteroid crashing, or even what time it is. And it's just nature's celestial beauty." I say to him.

"Hm..." I nod, unconvinced. "So that just means that the stars and planet's are important... but what use is it to study them? I mean, it's not like we can change any of that."

"It changes over time slowly, and the cycles of comets, asteroids, and solar and lunar eclispes change so frequently." I say with a smile, just talking about it.
