I bite the edge of my lip, ducking unnecessarily from some sort of hedgehog-like instinct as I walk into the intimidatingly big, bright building I had seen so many time on my walks but never had a reason to go into. Well, now you have a reason. Tom thinks it's safer for you to keep your gold in the bank instead of under your mattress. All my half-hearted arguments that he wasn't saying much for the scruples of his clientèle hadn't done any good - he still thought I should come here and open up an account. And if I died of terror, well... that would be just a little too overdramatic of me, so hopefully I wouldn't.
I offer a trembling smile to a goblin measuring emeralds, and walk on past, looking frequently over my shoulders and turning in a slow circle, hoping to spot someone who knows what I should do. 'Open an account,' he said, just 'open an account.' Like it's something we're all born just knowing how to do, I mutter in my head, looking around. It was my fault that I hadn't asked him questions, nodded along as if I knew what he was talking about. He kept telling me to not be so afraid to ask him questions, even about things I thought were silly, things that everyone else seemed to do as easily as breathing. He was telling me constantly to not be so afraid... of him or of the customers... of making small mistakes. But it's really not that simple, Tom. Nothing ever is.

"Demon creatures..." Piper muttered to herself as she walked fast toward the front of the bank. Piper needed some money on her, and needed it quick if she was going to have a place of her own soon. In her hurry she knocked into a woman, and somehow made Pipers wand fall out. When She went to take a step back, Piper stepped on her wand. "Needed a new one anyways..." She chuckled softly and stored the broken wand in her coat pocket. "Sorry 'bout that." She smiled at the woman she knocked into.

"Oh no," I say quickly in a soft voice, eyes wide. "I shouldn't be standing in the middle of the room like this... are you all right?"

"Fine, had worse when me and my dad went at it." She chuckled softly, "Not that he hit me or anything. We always played around like that." Piper added quickly.

I nod, quickly smoothing out the automatic frown of concern, taking a moment to see if I can tell whether she's lying or not, and nodding again as I decide that there's no way to know at the moment so I may as well assume that she isn't. "Well, as long as you're all right," I say, smiling softly. "And I'm sorry about your wand."

"Ah, it's nothing. Hand-me-down anyways. Bound to break one of these days." She grins, and holds out her and. "Piper Becker."

"Trisha Patricks," I nod, smiling again and shaking her hand, the name slipping out easily this time as if I've been using it for years. "Handed down from whom?" I ask curiously, making conversation.

"My dad." She says. "It's just me and him at home, so something just have to do." She shrugs slightly. "You know about that?"

"I... not really," I shrug. "I don't think so anyway." I smile very slightly. "I'm pretty much on my own."

I shake my head. "No, don't be. You didn't upset me or anything."
