i have to back away very sharply until my back hits the wall as a chair lifts from the floor of it's own accord and tucks itself up onto the table. i can feel my eyes widen and i feel ridiculous because it doesn't seem to bother anyone else. i, on the other hand, am still getting used to the laws of physics being broken.
i've set great store in them for my entire life after all.
not for the first time, since my abrupt integration into wizarding london, do i wish that i'd taken some interest in my families magic roots. but it's too late to wish now because i didn't and the fact is that i am now out of my depth with things that are going on.
i'd assumed that coming to a pub would be a sensible move, because it would be something i understood, but was no reconsidering as things aren't normal here either.
i start to feel desperate for normality but shrug it off.

this is your sons world, kristopher, you must make an effort.

i force myself away from the wall, carefully making my way across the bar and taking a seat cautiously away from a group of animatedly chatting people.
then realise that i don't have any idea what they serve here anyway and sit there, staring at the unfamiliar bottles behind the bar and try to make up my mind how i can manage to order without appearing totally moronic.

[Yumi Baker]

Yumi walks in with Fay crying softly in one arm, holding onto Mia's hand with the other. Mia was walking close to Yumi but looked around like she always had. As they walked out of the cold weather and into Three Broomsticks Mia ventured away from Yumi and started to loosen her grip on Yumi's hand.
As Yumi sat down, making sure Mia was sitting down before, Mia moved her gaze over to one man.
"Hey..." Mia muttered and prodded Yumi still looking over at the man. "What's wrong with him?"
"I don't know." Yumi muttered tending to Fay making sure he would start crying.
"What's wrong with him?" She asked again.
Yumi yet again said the same answer. As Fay started to cry uncontrolablely, Yumi sighed seeing she had left the baby bag outside. Yumi bit her lip and looked to Mia. "Stay here." She said and walked back outside.
Mia looked around and back at the man and at Yumi asshe walked out of the door.
She looked back and forth once more and went over to the man, looking up at him wide wide eyes. "What's wrong with you?" Mia asked the man.

i glance in surprise at the girl next to me, feeling a lot less intimidated seeing as the first person to talk to me here is a lot smaller and younger than i am.
"i..." i pause. "i think i'm in over my head."

[Yumi Baker]

"Why?" Mia asked as Yumi walked back in.
Seeing as Yumi didn't think to look over to where the man was Yumi saw an empty chair and Mia no where in sight. "Shi-..Shoot." She corrected herself and set Fay down in the carrier she had brought in with her and in her weak attempt to find Mia looked under the table. Was her first thought.

i smile, although i'm well out of practice with fatherhood, i hope to god that i'm not too frightening to children.
"not my type of people." i explain with a quick but otherwise friendly grin. "not used to this."
i glance at her sideways. "where's your mother anyway? she's probably worried sick about you wandering off."

"Not used to what? Mia asked with a confused face.
When he asked her where her mum was she looked around. "That one under the table." She said pointing over to Yumi.
Yumi stood back up and looked foward, a bit out of it to look behind her. She ran a hand through her hair and sighed. "Where are you..." She muttered. There were only so many places a three year old can go.

"a lot of things." i reply, glancing over at where she was pointing. "ah. i think you better get back to your mother. come on..."
i slide off my stool, having to stoop slightly to place my hand on the very top of her back and half steer her over to the woman she'd pointed to.

"What a lot of things?" Mia asked walking back over to Yumi. When Yumi hears steps coming closer and Fay laughing softly, which for some reason he had taken to when people he knew came near Yumi turns around and sees an older man with Mia. She let out a sigh of relief and leaned down and picked her hugging her close. "Don't do that to me baby girl..." Yumi muttered setting Mia back down on her feet as Mia says things like 'I'm fine' and rolls her eyes slightly. Mia walks over and starts to play with Fay, making his grin get wider.
"Thank you." Yumi finally said as she looked up at the man. "She's-.." Yumi stopped not sure of what words to say. "She's just a three year old." She finished with a light chuckle.

i laugh lightly. "it's alright. been there, done that. my baby girl used to wander off all the time."

[Yumi Baker]

"All the time?" Yumi laughed softly and looked over at Mia and Fay. "I'm not going to make it through her childhood." She chuckled. "Sorry, Yumi Baker." She added holding her hand out to the man.

[Kristopher Turner]

"all the time." i nod with a laugh. "but by all means don't let me discourage you."
i shake her hand lightly. "pleasure yumi. kris turner."

[Yumi Baker]

"Oh believe me you're not." She grinned, with slight sarcasm as a friendly joke.
"Pleasure Kris." She chuckled, echoing his words almost.

[Kristopher Turner]

i laugh. "i can do a better job of discouraging you if you want." i joke.
i grin. "thanks. mind me asking who these guys are?"

[Yumi Baker]

"Oh no, it's fine. Please dont'." Yumi laughed softly.
Yumi nodded and grinned, "Well you've met Mia and that little ball of energy sitting there is Fabian." Mia grinned up at the man and Fay laughed softly making little baby sounds putting his hands in the air. He had just gotten to be able to do that.

i grin, tilting my head slightly to get a glance at fabian. "ah, lovely kids. they yours?"

[Yumi Baker]

Yumi nodded, "Fabian is. Mia's dad was one of my friends." She said and reached her hand over and brushed some hair out of Mia's face.

[Kristopher Turner]

"you have a very curious little girl there." i laugh slightly. "very humanitarian as well. does she often ask strangers what's wrong with them?"

[Yumi Baker]

Yumi laughed softly, "Yes. On our way here she tried to get this group of people to come with us. Never seen them before." She chuckled. "Just like her dad."

[Kristopher Turner]

"very kind of her." i laugh. "her dad's overly friendly too?"

[Yumi Baker]

Yumi laughs softly nodding. "Fabian was the most friendly guy you wouldhaveever met." She said and looked donw at Mia. "Not that Fabian. Sirius and I named our son after Fabian. He was a good friend of ours."

[Kristopher Turner]

i smile. "that's a nice gesture."

[Yumi Baker]

Yumi smiled, "Yeah.." She said. "But I knew once I told him that we were having a boy I wouldn't have any choice in the name." she chuckled lightly, to joke.

[Kristopher Turner]

i laugh. "my wife was the same way when we found out we were having a girl. actually she was the same way with the boys as well."

[Yumi Baker]

Yumi laughed softly and leaned down and picked Fay up rocking him slightly, keeping him calm. "Pretty sure I'm not having anymore kids."

[Kristopher Turner]

"ah really? even when you know how fun it is?" i grin.

[Yumi Baker]

Yumi laughed softly. "Let me get a boyfriend, maybe a husband before I have anymore."

[Kristopher Turner]

i glance at fabian, then nod briefly. "oh my bad. assumptions will be the death of me."

[Yumi Baker]

Yumi shrugged lightly. "It's fine." She said rocking Fay back and forth again. "Sirius and I-...He-..." She paused not sure what she could say to this man. He was practically a stranger. "He promised he would stay to help. That's all that matters at the moment."

[Kristopher Turner]

"yeah. all that matters." i agree, more for the sake of it than because i actually know what's going on.
"so...are you a recent graduate...up at the...uh...school?"

[Yumi Baker]

Yumi eyes him for a moment at how it seemed odd the way he said school. "Er, not really. I just didn't go back after the holidays." She said. "Kind of hard with two kids." She said with a soft chuckle. "Did you go?"
