You know… I think that I actually hate this place, I think, scowling slightly as I look around the Three Broomsticks from my seat in the back. So in that case why are you here, genius? I shrug at the voice in annoyance, not really wanting to be questioned by my own mind at the moment. It’s been a little over a week since Andra died and I’m getting used to the empty feeling. I’ve also developed an irrational hatred toward the castle and feel rather sick when I get near the forest… so my options are rather limited. Especially if I want to avoid both people and sunlight as well. I trace a random circle on the table, half-hypnotizing myself and not really caring. Quite the lovely life you’ve got there, Arden.

So, you gonna run? Just like that? Fuck you Kaleb, you don't have a clue on what I'm going through. No I don't, 'cos your not talking to anyone. You have to stop doing this MJ. Fuck you. My life, my choice. Your not my father. Stop trying to protect me Kaleb, you can't save everyone. Kaleb lugged himself into the Three Broomsticks, instinctively heading towards the back. Everything it seems, was falling apart. And a part of him agreed with Maddie. He couldn't save everyone. Not Jack. Not Keria. Not Noah. Not even himself. He sighs, ordering a firewhiskey. So now what? You gonna drown yourself in alcohol? "That's the plan," He mutters under his breath to himself.

I look up at some guy nearby as I hear him muttering to himself, and nod for no particular reason, just acknowledging his presence to myself before I look back at the circle I've been tracing. I feel almost as if I can see it, like I've actually started to wear a groove in the wood. Hm... I think, brain working slowly. That seems to be it for its capabilities, actually, and I shrug slightly to myself as I stare at the table. Wonder what the plan is? pops into my head after a minute, but I shrug it off listlessly.

You can't save everyone. Kaleb mutters darkly under his breath, Maddie's voice ringing out in his head. Taking a siwg from his firewhiskey, he takes a look around, not many people were around. Place was empty execpt for a couple people.

You know what? This is a pathetic excuse for a life. And I think if Andra were here she'd probably say so, and that this is not much better than if you'd jumped off the damn tower. I shrug again, annoyed and tired, and look around. Fine. How about if I talk to someone? I look at the muttering guy nearby and open my mouth - then draw a blank. What could I possibly say to him? Hello total stranger who also is an adult and in rather a bad mood and also drinking, didn't mean to bother you but the voices said that I should do something other than sit here. I shake my head, tracing the circle again even though my fingers are starting to feel raw. But at least I'm looking around the bar now instead of staring at said circle.

You know what? Your pathetic. Instead of being with your family at a time like this your sitting here drowning yourself in firewhiskey. Cold hearted useless bastard. "Thay's me in a nutshell."

I shoot a glance over at the guy again, increasingly curious but still not knowing how to start talking. Finally I shrug and go with an old standby. "Hey... you okay?" I ask, nodding toward him.

Kaleb glances up, registering someone was speaking to him. He starts to say 'yes' but instead he shakes his head no. "Not even close," He mutters, taking another swig of firewhiskey.

Figured as much. I nod. "You... want to talk about... whatever it is, rather than drowning yourself?" I ask hesitantly.

"I'll stick to drowning myself thank you." Comes the reply as he lifts the bottle to his lips again. Talking about things will help you know, it'll let you come to terms with it. Jack's voice floats back into his head. Who would have thought that out of all of them Jack would become a psychologist?

I nod again, shrinking a bit and looking down at the table. "Sorry," I mutter almost inaudibly, twisting a napkin around in my hands before I've even realized I pulled it from my pocket. Well, 'twas worth a shot. If he doesn't want to talk, fine then.

Now your just being an ass for the sake of it. Kaleb sighs, putting down the bottle, and leaning against the counter,"Sorry." He mumbles,"Not much of a people person."

I shrug. "That's all right. I was being intrusive." Trying to lay aside my problems and get out of this funk by focusing on someone else's.

"... Arden," I say after a moment, shrugging. My name feels empty without the last name after it to cap it all off, but I've just recently gotten a lecture from Andrew about safety/paranoia. And if he saw you initiating conversation with some random guy in a bar like this, he'd have you disemboweled.

"Might be," I mutter, glancing off to the side and trying to remember if I'm skipping class, and what day it is... or is it night? I frown slightly and shrug. "Take it you're not then?" I ask unnecessarily, considering he has to be at least in his mid-twenties.

I nod, feeling mildly triumphant that I evaded his question before realizing he probably doesn't actually care one way or the other that I'm out here. "So... what do you do now?" I shrug, just to be asking something.

"Odd jobs here and there. Bounce from town to town, shit like that." He mutters, knowing he's had to get use to staying in one place for long due to Allie.

I nod the paranoia lessons kicking in and putting me a little more on guard than previously. As if you needed lessons. "For thirteen years?" I ask, raising my eyebrows slightly. "Kind of an odd way to live."

I frown puzzledly over that reply for a moment, which doesn't quite seem to fit my question, before shaking my head and ignoring it. "And why is that?" I ask, raising my eyebrows. "They wouldn't happen to include Maddie Speare, would they?"

"Emma and Tyler," Kaleb murmurs, that twang of guilt in his stomach. Not even five years old and they were dead. They were only two years older then his own daughter.
