Dragons, dragons, dragons… why in the hell do they have so many books on breeding and caring for the damn things when it’s been illegal to do so for centuries? I shake my head at the idiocy of whoever maintains this library, trying to find a book I can use to write my Potions essay on the uses of dragon’s blood versus unicorn blood. I’m so absorbed in looking that I don’t realize someone else is in this row of books until I’ve turned and elbowed them in the back. “Oh, sorry,” I say quickly, barely glancing at whoever it is before I move on to continue looking.

I was looking through some books, not really looking for a specific one when someone bumped into me. "S'okay" I say after I turned around to see who it was. "No harm done."

And now he's talking to me. Damn. I take a closer look at the guy, realizing that I think he's in my year, but a Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. And possibly even in my Potions class, not that I pay much attention to my classmates. "Good to hear," I nod, turning away again. [Dragon books....

I smiled and was about to turn around again when I thought I recognized him, "Hey, are you in my potions class?" I asked after he had already turned around, hoping I wasn't bothering him.

"Hm?" I look up, distracted again. "If you're taking seventh-year Potions, yes." I frown slightly. "Ravenclaw?"

I nod my head and realized he was in my class, but I couldn't remember his name, having never talked to him before. "Yeah, Ravenclaw" I say with a small smile, "Name's Riley." I hold my hand out to him.

"Fitzy Patricks," I nod, hesitantly reaching out to shake his hand. "Slytherin." I smile wryly.

I nod my head slightly with a smile, "Fitzy? You're Arden's brother?" I ask as I take my hand back, putting them both my pockets.

Great. Someone who knows Arden, I think, freezing slightly. "Might be," I say cautiously, knowing if I've ever been mentioned it can't have been good. "You're a friend of hers...?"

I nodded my head, "Yeah, she's one of my best." I say smiling.

I nod, letting my guard down a little now he doesn't seem to despise me automatically despite that. "She used to be one of mine, too. Until she got new ones." I shake my head bitterly, then shrug.

"Oh.. sorry." I say mumbling slightly, trying to remember if Arden had said anything about him.

I shrug again. "Distant past. We've officially despised each other for a while now. What about you? Any brothers or sisters?"

I nod my head, frowning slightly, leaning on a book shelf behind me. "Yeah.. Little brother and sister." I tell him, leaving out the part about Justin dying. I didn't feel like getting any sorrys about it today.

I nod, scanning the dragon books again from lack of anything to say.

Okay... not very talkative... I think to myself. "Mind if I ask why you and Arden aren't close anymore?" I asked curiously a few moments later, not remembering if Arden had ever told me.

I glance over at him, raising my eyebrows. "She hasn't told you?" I ask in surprise, the bitterness creeping in more strongly as I continue. "She hasn't told you what a foul person I am, even compared to her saintly death eater friends? How everything they do is fine, but when I tried to protect her from it...." I break off, shaking my head. "Never make her angry if you value her friendship at all. That girl doesn't know the meaning of forgiveness."

I raised my eyebrows a little bit, slightly taken aback, not knowing what to say to him. "I don't tend to make people angry that often. But no, I don't remember her mentioning any of that." I shake my head slightly. "Maybe you should try talking to her again. She seems at least a little forgiving to me." I add wanting to defend her in some way.

I shake my head, feeling so consumed by the bitterness that it's almost as if I can taste it. "I've had enough shouting matches to last a few lifetimes," I say, not wanting to add that after the last one turned into a hexing match, I don't think 'at least a little forgiving' is really going to cut it.

I nod my head faintly, understanding why he wouldn't want to try to talk to her again if it could end up like that. "What'd she do when you tried to protect her?" I asked curiously, "You don't have to answer if you don't want, I'm being nosy. Realy none of my business." I add realizing I was probaby getting annoying.

"No, it's fine," I say after giving him a measuring look. I shrug. "She took the side of the people I was trying to protect her from, that's what. And she still refuses to see that that's what I was trying to do."

"Oh..." I say before pausing again, "You're sure you don't want to try to talk to her again? Maybe you just need to try a different approah.. or something.."

I hesitate for a moment, wavering on the verge of asking if he has any suggestions, then shake my head. "No... I'm done with her. What she does is her own business, even if it gets her killed."

I looked up to him from the spot I was staring at on the floor. "You can't seriously mean that. I'm sure you'd care if something happend to her."

I shake my head, carefully not actually thinking about my words because if I do I'll probably realize his are true. "She wants nothing to do with me, so why shouldn't I return the favor? It's impossible to get back on her good side, so I'm just giving up. And as far as I'm concerned I never had a sister. Clean break on both sides - we were never even related." I shrug. And we never were close friends, and I never cared at all... and I never even considered joining the Order. How about I throw in those lies too?

Because she's your sister. I thought to myself, not really understanding the way he was thinking. "No matter how much you deny it. She's still going to be your sister." I say shaking my head slightly, "Sorry.. I just could never do that."

I eye the books again, not really seeing them, and deciding that I really don't like this guy because he's too bloody smart. "You have an alternative?" I ask. "Or do I think I should just continue to acknowledge that yes, she is my sister, even though she refuses to reciprocate?"
|
|
|
Post by Riley Pearson on Jan 5, 2008 21:32:24 GMT
"I already gave you what my alternative was. Maybe a few times wasn't enough for her to understand you don't want to hate eachother." I say with a shrug.

"It doesn't matter what I say." I shake my head. "She does want to hate me, and she also doesn't trust me. Nothing makes a difference." I shrug.

I shrugged, "Maybe from what she last told you, but it's your decision. I'm sure something makes a difference though." I say still looking at him. "But if you're going to decide to forget about her, I'm not planning on letting anything happen to her."
